Smooth summer sounds

2011 Peninsula Summer Music Festival
When you think of music festivals, a bunch of young teenagers waving their ray bans, dancing in denim hot pants and wellington boots spring to mind. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a more sophisticated music festival for the summer overlooking the stunning vineyards, churches and restaurants of the Mornington Peninsula?

If that sounds more like your kind of summer festival vibe and your ideal play list includes some intimate chamber music, 18th century opera and twilight jazz, the 4th annual Peninsula Summer Music Festival is your answer.

Rather than trying to cram it all into one day, this festival is spread across eight days with 16 concerts in various locations including Flinders, Red Hill, Mornington and Mount Eliza. Mix in some of the region’s local foods and wines at the Gala Opening dinner at Montalto where you can embark on a musical degustation of opera, art, song and cabaret between courses.

Some concerts are free admission whilst some ticketed events allow you to meet and chat with the musical artists themselves – much like back stage with classier surrounds.
