Of pure order

German Bier Day celebrations
Duke Wilhelm IV evidently possessed a thirst for good Bier and foresight beyond his years. 493 years ago he passed down an edict known as the German Bier Purity Law; which in essence states German bier may only be made of barley, hops, yeast and water.

The decree still holds true – you can now, however, add German Bier Day marked each year on April 23.

Step into any of the Bavarian Bier Cafés or the Löwenbräu Keller during the week of celebrations to try favourite biers and some specially created meals. Like the Paulaner Premium Pils and Löwenbräu Original, all of their Tap Bier is shipped from Munich in Germany, apart from Stiegl which comes from Salzburg in Austria.

Before you clink too many steins, line your stomach with a hearty Bavarian dish; grilled terrine of organic Goaralie pork with sautéed potato at the bar, or slow cooked bier braised Ochsen Backen (beef cheeks) served on a bed of potato purée with spinach.

Prost!
