Eugene’s joins the strip in Bronte

Ornate ceilings, art deco charm and reclaimed odds-and-ends make for a cosy nook in Bronte worth putting on your ‘must visit’ list.

New to the foodie strip on Macpherson Street, Eugene’s is wasting no time winning over locals with good food, great sweets and even better coffee.

Named after the man himself – you’ll find Eugene (experienced Head Chef and owner) out the back firing up pans filled with breakfast show stoppers like Spanish omelette with chorizo, potato and capsicum; fried duck egg with morcilla and braised black-eyed peas; and seriously impressive buckwheat pancakes with strawberry compote, sweetened ricotta and crushed pistachios. Pair this with cracking Five Senses coffee and you’ll have a little boogie in your step for the rest of the day.

When it comes to lunch, a solid café menu comes to life with daytime favourites aplenty – choose from house made chicken, corn and tarragon pie; caramelised onion, cauliflower and gorgonzola quiche; sautéed potato gnocchi with chargrilled zucchini and bocconcini; and a range of organic bread sandwiches. DO make friends with salad and tuck into a mix plate of roast beetroot, Bulgarian feta, hazelnuts and tarragon; quinoa, fennel, dill and cucumber; and chickpea, roast eggplant, goat’s cheese with cumin and coriander.

Don’t pass on the plentiful selection of house made cakes and pastries scattered around the place – baked praline hazelnut meringue? It’d be rude not to.

Head to Bronte’s bustling food strip and be charmed by Eugene’s.
