Absolut Art

Absolut Stairwell Gallery
Not since peanut butter and jelly has there been a more sublime combination than art and alcohol.

The match made in heaven comes down to terra firma on Thursday night when Sugarmill’s Absolut Stairwell Gallery opens. Situated in the stairwell between the hip corner pub Sugarmill on Level 1 and the Shanghai-nights-meets-Studio-54 inspired bar Kit & Kaboodle on Level 2, the Stairwell gallery is a space dedicated to showcasing the works of Australia’s young artists.

Each month will feature a different artistic medium like graffiti, painting and photography starting with an exhibition by Sydney street artist group StupidKrap! headed by artist Ben Frost.

With the gallery open 24-hours, combine an artistic foray with a night out. Sugarmill serves a hearty pub meal with big ribs, big subs and big steaks while the upper of Kit & Kaboodle’s two levels – a supper club on Level 3 inspired by Audrey Hepburn and garden parties – fills up quickly with the cool crowd.

The only question is which drink to sip whilst perusing the canvas-clad walls. Kit & Kaboodle’s cocktail waiters suggest their new signature cocktail the ‘Kit Tickler’, a vodka, maraschino, Cointreau and apple concoction to be served at the gallery’s launch party.
