a toast to affairs of state

Was the last time you stumbled upon a political scandal at the pub over a beer? Whether office politics or party preferences, it’s likely to have been deliberated at your local.

An evening of ‘Pub Politics’ has been brewing for some time; a forum to exchange ideas and blether about hot issues of the moment. This Thursday The Sackville Hotel opens up their floor to their first in a monthly series, with the topic “Has the NSW Government gone to the dogs?”

To ensure the answer is more than a resounding ‘yes’, Channel 7’s political reporter, and all-round friendly antagonist, Lou Milligan, will MC and keep conversation flowing, whilst The Sacky’s bar staff will do the same for the beverages.

You can count on some heavy banter as debating the issue will be the Honourable Joe Hockey and Dr Meredith Burgmann.  Joe Hockey is the Federal Member for North Sydney, the Shadow Health Minister and Leader of Opposition Business in parliament, a vocal critic of the Labor government and a self-described feminist.

Dr Meredith Burgmann is the former Madame President of the NSW Upper House, an unabashed Queen of the ALP’s left faction and also a feminist. She’s the creator of the annual Ernie Awards for the most appalling sexist comments, and potential Lord Mayor of Sydney candidate to run against Clover Moore.

Being politically incorrect on pub nights is the correct thing to do – or is it the other way round? At least you know you can rely on the beer.
