Captain Cook Cruises’ Gold Lunch Series take place on board their flagship MV Sydney 2000. It’s a seafood and wine dining extravaganza that showcases amazing local producers. The monthly lunches have different themes – think Ocean Fizz, Pink Gin, Vino Boato and even Christmastide (Christmas in July!). We checked out the their recent Spring ‘Aqua Tonic’ offering for a sneak peek, which brought together Tasmania’s famous Huon Salmon and Ocean Trout delicacies and renowned Tyrrell’s wineries’ Pinot Brut, Semillon, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Tawny range. A match made in heaven!
Lunch starts by launching from King St Wharf, kick starting the sailing with salmon sliders and delicate lemon, ricotta and salmon blinis, paired with a toast using Tyrell’s Chardonay Pinot Noir Brut NV. Now you’re cruising! The starter, a mouth watering trio of oysters with salmon roe, ginger and a hit of chilli goes down a treat with the Tyrrell’s Hunter Valley Semillon 2018. A refreshing citrus sorbet clears the pallette and you’re ready for entrée – an exquisite rosette of smoked Huon ocean trout, served with shaved fennel, dill, capers and black caviar.
There’s time to savour the incredible harbour views on the open deck before returning for mains – in this case, a premium Huon Tasmanian salmon fillet, married with fresh seasonal garden vegetables drizzled with lemon infused oil and capers. The pairing the Tyrell’s Hunter Valley Chardonnay 2017 seals the deal. You’re well and truly in your happy place when dessert – a tiramisu and matching special aged tawney arrives. Then it’s time to just relax, soak in the afternoon sun and enjoy the spectacular views, reminded that like all great things, it’s all about the journey not the destination!
