6 Reasons to Eat (or Drink) Apples Right Now

There’s no denying there are many benefits to enjoying a good, crisp apple. An apple a day keeps the doctor away, or so the saying goes, and we all know that nothing tastes as sweet as your nan’s apple pie on a wintery night.

So good they are, that Adam & Eve gave up their rights to the Garden of Eden for a bite of one. If getting your daily dose of fruit is a constant struggle for you, just do what we do. Cheat your way there! Here’s how to enjoy apples in all their glory (read: covered in sugar or crushed into a chilled cider!).

In Liquid (Alcoholic) Form…

Reason #1: Bobbin Apple Bowl

Yep, as the name suggests this is a delicious #tb to our favourite school carnival activity. You choose the base spirit, and then The Greens match it with fresh apple, mint and vanilla, all stirred together in a glorious punch bowl. The bonus: comes with a side of majestic Sydney Harbour views.

Reason #2: Monteith’s Apple Cider

Enjoy at home, at the bar or any place of your choosing. Unlike other ciders, this beverage isn’t made from reconstituted apple concentrate. Its made using 100% crushed NZ apples that would be sure to pass your Nan’s strict approval process. Plus, it tastes really really good.

Important note to all cider sippers: They say imitation is the highest form of flattery, and that couldn’t be more true in regards to the recent hoax surrounding Monteith’s Cider. The short story is a batch of counterfeit cider was floating around recently, pretending to be Monteith’s Cider. Luckily the only thing they were guilty of was turning our beloved crisp 100% crushed apple cider into a concentrated cousin; it was safe to drink, if you don’t count the assault on your taste buds. Don’t worry, all is right in the cider world again, so (clink!), bottoms up and cheers to the weekend!

Reason #3: The Breakfast Roll

Why wait until midday to get your daily apple injection? Bowery Lane is a delectable avalanche of twice-cooked pork belly, apple ‘slaw, smoked BBQ sauce and fried egg all wrapped up in a neat little package giant bun.

Reason #4: Port Lincoln Kingfish Ceviche (with Wasabi, Apple, & Charcoal Cone)

More of a savoury person? Well Tokyo Tina has you covered. Located on the iconic Chapel Street, Tina’s promises to bring a little slice of Tokyo to Melbourne, and in this case, thin slices of apple to an 11 out of 10 dish.

In Decadent Dessert Form…

Pie-Tin

Reason #5: Apple Frangipane Tart

Just typing that made our mouth water. Served with milk jam ice cream and hot butterscotch, we would willingly exile mourself from Eden/anywhere for a slither of this baked delight.

Reason #6: Apple Pie

Sorry Nan, but no guide to either the best a) apple dishes or b) pies is complete without a shout out to The Pie Tin in Newtown’s, or their apple pie. Dessert fiends, prepare to meet your match. This guy is enormous, with layers of cinnamon-spiced apple housed in pastry that’s heavy on the sugar sprinkles.
