Same Doll, New Lane

The Feel of Shanghai with a touch of Mad Men. An unlikely partnership to be sure, but one that makes Steve Anastasiou’s newest sister restaurant (to China Doll), China Lane, the latest in chic city dining.

The contemporary dark woods with deep reds and greens create a warming interior, while the touches of 1950’s furnishings add just the right amount of retro glam.

Good fengshui vibes start with impeccable service from the ex- Maître D at Neil Perry’s Spice Temple hitting up the floor, and continues through to the kitchen where Head Chef, Ben Haywood offers some winning combinations. Having worked with celebrity chefs such as Heston Blumenthal, Raymond Blanc and Nico Ladenis, Haywood hasn’t shied away from pushing the envelope and as a result has produced a harmonious fusion of old and modern Asian cuisine.

Expect an interesting range of dishes on the menu with plenty of share plates to pick and choose from. Favourites include the pulled pork, steamed bao, sriracha mayo and crispy shallot, and the slow roast pork belly, prawns, pomelo and jellyfish with nuoc man salad.

Wine connoisseurs won’t be disappointed, or if Asian inspired cocktails are more to your liking then try the classic China White; jasmine tea syrup and lychees folded with Plymoth gin and Martinin Bianco.

Follow the bird cages, you’ll enjoy taking a trip down to China Lane.
