Planar Restaurant is Darling Harbour’s new hot spot

Planar

When it comes to secret meeting or hiding places, where better than a cave? For those seeking somewhere to meet for a pre-show share plate and cocktail or a lingering harbourside dinner, then we think Darling Harbour’s new Planar Restaurant was conjured up especially for you.

Hollowed out like an exposed cavern below the new $3.4B Convention Centre, Planar brings out your inner explorer – you’ll be drawn in to discover more. As the name suggests, the long planes of pearlised plaster carve out a harbour-oriented elevation that takes inside/outside entertaining to a new level.

The huge entertaining area is perfect for parties and friends – and the perfect setting for the range of pizza and cocktail making classes they’re launching. The backlit bar, suspended metal fireplaces and outside dining areas (heaters, warm throws and cozy pebble colour sofas keep you cosy) make this a very cool spot to settle into. Stepping out to the open air dining area feels like emerging from an underground cave and onto the deck of a luxury ocean liner.

The menu is modern Australian and broad; we’re talking pizza from its Italian-inspired wood fired ovens, super star Asian dishes like spiced squid served with crispy Asian noodles, aioli and a little chilli hit, and big US burgers. The squid is not to be missed, but make sure you save room for Singapore Noodles with pork belly and prawns – no diving for juicy pearls here. Pair dinner with a glass of Rose or a refreshing Leffe and you’re all set.

If you’re up for something with a little more oomph, try a Lychee Rose Mojito – a refreshing combination of Havana white rum, lychee liquor and rose liquor mixed with that quenching combination of lemon juice, sugar, mint and soda water. If you’re like us and relishing the onset of the warmer months, the Watermelon Caprioska is a must – mixed perfectly with Smirnoff Vodka, muddled watermelon, lime, raw sugar and all served on crushed ice.  Aaaaaaah!

Planar is the perfect spot for those who want to settle in for a session at Darling Harbour and have two experiences in one without leaving port.
