Palings Kitchen and Bar

Palings-InteriorsWith more quick changes than Superman, the IVY has had a ‘do’ over with a new look even Michelle Obama’s fringe can’t compete with. It’s a little bit more than a crop, with a complete re-style, chopping out Mad Cow and recreating a garden and kitchen dining environment any teddy bear would love to picnic in.

Christopher Whitehead (ex Berowra Waters Inn & Opera Bar) creates a playful menu. Why wrestle your dining partner to the ground to get your way on which cuisine to eat when can order from Sunee’s Thai Canteen without moving your cute derriere one inch.

Deli delights include a brioche bun cuddle of sweet crab. The salad of smoked trout plays hide n seek with its watercress and coriander friends topped with a ridiculously perfect boiled egg so glorious you’ll want to do a few Hail Mary’s. Crazy water potatoes have been boiled dry enveloping them in a delicious salty halo – the perfect playmate to Sunee’s Thai green chicken curry.

The queen of pastry, Lorraine Godsmark (ex Yellow, Rockpool) makes her CBD debut at Lorraine’s with a cracking selection of desserts including a petit croquembouche (worth fighting for). Don’t despair if there’s no tummy room, slink up to her Patisserie on Palings Lane and fill a box with naughty delights including feather-light cheesecake and frangipani tart, chewy coconut macaroons and a macadamia chocolate tart that’ll see your popularity soar in nano seconds … it’s also the same length of time it takes for them all to disappear!

About the author

Karen’s corporate job back in the UK had included entertaining clients in some of the best restaurants. This ultimately sparked a curiosity 'Just how do they do that?' (she confesses she was brought up on meat and vegetables, so this was all very exciting). Currently a Mr & Mrs Smith 'Tastemaker', she’s flashpacked around the world, learning about wine, experiencing different cultures and cuisines and had a two- year love affair with it all. Originally from England, she finally settled in Australia and continues to be besotted by food, wine and travel preferring to focus on the luxury end of town (thread count does matter).
