Third Drawer Down

What did your third drawer down hold when growing up? In our kitchen, it was a collection of floral worn tea towels and placemats. If you want your third drawer down to be a place of discovery and excitement, then you might want to check out the Museum of Art Souvenirs by Third Drawer Down in Fitzroy.

Once a single car garage space, this store is a multi-purpose space, which acts as a showroom, retail space, design studio and museum of collectables from their own designs and other labels they love.

Apparently, its Australia’s only trading museum and showcases Third Drawer Down’s own brand of hand printed textiles for tea towels (that often double as wall art) and also features their collaborations with local and international artists and designers featured at MoMa, New Museum, MOCA and Tate Modern as well as being featured in the New York Times, Melbourne Design Guide and sold at Urban Outfitters.

Choose from quirky bed linen, stationary and accessories or check out their collection of “eccentric and witty products by artists/designers and niche brands including crayon rocks, chocolate pie charts, giant corn cob stools, children’s art supplies, limited edition textiles, bed linens and publications that question the mainstream conditions under which art and culture are bought and sold”.

We only wish museums were this cool when we were growing up.
