Melbourne’s New QV Outdoor Cinema

QV Outdoor CinemaStory telling is as old as time. Before film, stories were written and spoken, but they were still told. These days we have the luxury of the big screen where stories from across the globe are told, right in front of us. Thanks to the new QV Outdoor Cinema, (launching December 1) we have a new summer destination for story telling underneath the stars.

Held in the QV Square on Level two of QV Melbourne, this new movie wonderland is where you can escape the streets and dive into fiction. You can do so in the comfort of deck chairs, on astro turf, under the stars, with the added bonus of $12 tickets. Insider tip: if you buy a food and beverage package online before you get there, those tickets go down to $10. Kudos QV.

Speaking of those food and beverage packages, you can munch on burgers from Grill’d, ice cream from Movenpick, burritos from Mad Mex, schnitzels from Schnitz, and more burgers from Father’s Office. Plus the space is fully licensed.

Throughout the pop up – running from December 1 to February 28, classic Christmas films and cult favourites will be gracing the big screen. Melbourne filmmaker and film programmer Gus Berger has curated the line up of films. The themes revolve around the months themselves, meaning the stories will reflect the mood of the city. Christmas films will feature in December, Australian movies showing around Australia Day, and a Melbourne Independent Film Focus taking over in February. Just for the month of December you’ll be seeing anything from Home Alone and Miracle on 34th Street to The Matrix and Romeo and Juliet.

In celebration of all things summer, QV Melbourne will be hosting a free launch event on Tuesday, December 1 at 8.30pm, which coincides with the ‘Shop The City’ event. There’ll be performances from Santa’s Christmas Spectacular acrobatic elves, Melbourne DJ Chiara Kickdrum will be playing killer tunes, and a screening of The Devil Wears Prada. You can book their complimentary tickets online now. If this isn’t enough to get you excited, on December 12th a ‘Best in Show’ event will be held where movie and four paw lovers are invited to bring their dogs dressed in festive outfits. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to The Lost Dogs’ Home.

A shopping space, a laneway, and now a cinema where important and entertaining stories will be told all summer, QV Melbourne has you covered.
