Pilates: Body-friendly workout

If laborious hours on a treadmill, or gym classes, which require jumping about in an uncoordinated fashion make you cringe, then a visit to a pilates studio could be in order.

While pilates has been around for years, it’s only recently surfaced as the hottest form of exercise in LA, New York and London, and it’s no wonder.

In Melbourne, Breathe Yoga & Pilates is the crème-de-la-crème; they have the ‘best in the business STOTT accredited instructors’, plus a funky New York style studio to boot. Arriving at the studio via elevator, you’re met with a tranquil space, complete with fresh white walls, wooden floorboards and loads of natural light.

The reformer (machine) classes are heaven-sent, they’ll tone your abs and butt plus you’ll work up a sweat. As you move from Level 1 to Level 2, the ‘hundreds’, ‘hip rolls’ and ‘spine twists’ become second nature.

If getting on a reformer makes you fret, opt for mat classes; essentially they’re the same, but done on the floor, or even get a 1:1 tailored program.

If you dream of longer leaner muscles (without the bulk); core strength and stability; relief from stress and back pain (a.k.a. hours in front of a computer); better balance; and posture, this is the class to book.
