Melbourne Dinner – With A Twist

Dear Diary,

You know how I love surprises? I’m being a bit adventurous and going to a dinner party with a twist.

What’s happening is that 50 of Melbourne’s rooftop bars and laneway restaurants (those quirky laneway finds are one of the reasons I love living here, remember) are hosting a fab event. (And it’s all for charity, with 100 percent of proceeds going to STREAT – a charity that sorts education and jobs for homeless youth in hospitality – so I can tick altruism off my ‘to-do list as well.)

It’s a ‘mysterious’ dinner party, so, basically, up to 500 guests come to the allocated meeting point (that will be on the tickets everyone gets when they book) and then everyone gets told where they’re going.

Two women (Jonette George and Danielle Wilton) came up with it. They’re a mother/daughter team who’ve been researching Melbourne’s hidden culinary treasures for a new book, Flavours Of Melbourne. You know I love a bit of inside info.

First stop is one the 25 rooftop bars who are participating. Once everyone gets there, someone will tell us where to go next – for a special 3-course dinner at one of 25 restaurants that are involved. Victorian wines are on the menu too (don’t worry – I won’t drink TOO much).

Then…after-party time. They tell everyone where at the dinner. I’m going to book right now because you know what I’m like when life gets busy. I don’t want to forget this. November 29. Tickets are $150. I’m heading to www.streatparty.com now.
