Il Fornaio: dessert bar to die for

If there ever were a dessert goddess, Phillippa Sibley from the renewed Il Fornaio would fill the shoes with room to spare. After taking over the helm at the iconic St Kilda café, she has joined forces with St Ali coffee in what is a match made in foodie heaven.

Phillipa, formerly of Bistro Guillaume is more widely known for ‘that’ dessert, her Famous Snickers dessert on Masterchef that left you all in awe. Now she has taken sweets to a new level by introducing the dessert bar at Il Fornaio.

A popular New York concept, it features indulgences such as honey panacotta, quince and cashew sesame praline; meyer lemon tart; crème brulee with heilala vanilla; plus many more sublime creations that will make your taste buds soar.

By day they serve up a great breakfast and seasonal lunch dishes, and by night the provedore becomes wine and dessert bar with a new ‘salty’ and ‘sweet’ menu. The house smoked salmon with rye, and oysters with pickled beetroot and blood orange jelly are must-haves.

The wine list complements the menu with an array of bubbles, wines and of course dessert wines to choose from. You can share multiple plates with friends or treat yourself to a post-dinner dessert you won’t forget.

And before you ask, yes ‘that’ dessert is on the menu too.
