Fatto Bar and Cantina

FattoTrocadero graced the banks of the Yarra River in August 2012 and showed us just what pre-theatre dining could be. Tomorrow (November 9) it will re-open as Fatto Bar & Cantina.

This newest venture for the Van Haandel Group will bring General Manager Anthony Musarra back to the kitchen as Executive Chef.

White tiles and paint have replaced the black and concrete backdrop of Trocadero to reveal a light and more playful space. You still get the greenery outside and the killer views of the Yarra River, but this time, a little more relaxed.

Designed by Melbourne’s Project of Imagination – the designers behind Builders Arms, Mr Tulk and Chin Chin – we have no doubt the space was made to make a restaurant really work. With an extra white tiled bar space shifted in, we can only assume there will be less of a focus on the three course big spenders, and more on the casual crowd – and the 5pm-7pm $7 Aperitivo hours confirm this.

The food will be Italian – Musarra’s interpretation of Italian anyway. Open from 11am, they’ll be serving up a well-priced, approachable yet playful menu that draws a lot of inspiration from the produce coming through. Think prosciutto, lamb and scallops.

While we loved Trocadero and we might need some time to mourn the onion risotto and that dessert, we welcome Fatto with open arms. Now where’s the Negroni?
