Mazzitelli

There’s something special about swinging open the door to a space that transports you somewhere else instantly (think Rome).

New restaurants can take some time for that familiarity to soak into the walls but Mazitelli has painted the place with it, safely landing a slice of Italian authenticity in the heart of Richmond.
Behind this charming eatery are industry pacesetters Jason M. Jones and Theo Tsapepas; who again prove they’re on top of the game with their consistent hospitality history (Friends of Mine, Porgie + Mr Jones and Snow Pony).

One step inside and instantly the generous antipasto offering entices. Move on to survey a glass-cased glory box of sweet pastries and imported chocolates. You can admire this from your bar stool whilst sipping Prosecco before a shuffle upstairs to get all A La Carte.

To-die-for Melanzane, the original Osso Bucco and melt-in-mouth Saltimbocca are some of the Secondi favourites. Desserts are as delicious as the décor and a good old Affogato can act as a nightcap or get you the head start on a night-out. Chef Tyrone Folino’s rich robust dishes will have you back in the following week for more. If you can’t wait till then, try the porchetta rolls for brekkie – from 10am each day it’s fresh out the oven and ready for your belly.

It’s common to see the owner behind the bar, on the floor and chatting to the chefs. He cares. You can taste it in the food and drink it through the wine list. Just a part of the parcel when you’re obsessed with the Italian way of life.
