High Tea Time at Hotel Centennial

Hotel Centennial Afternoon Tea“I’m just heading down to the pub for high tea.” Hmm. Not a phrase many of us have muttered but that’s about to change.

Woollahra’s revamped Hotel Centennial is booked out most nights of the week but they’re not resting on their laurels. Now you can sneak in early for a cup of tea or a glass of bubbles (high tea is served from noon, and this is a pub) seven days a week with the launch of the brand new High Tea Menu.

If you’re a bit confused, yes this is still a pub, then you haven’t been to the hotel. Sleek and chic, this more five star boutique hotel lobby lounge than throw back a dozen beers post-footy kinda pub.

Tea does indeed take place in a lounge. The Scarlett Lounge sits right at the front of the pub, where drapes cover big glass windows looking out on the leafy section of Oxford Street.

High Tea comes fresh from the kitchen, served on Miranda Kerr’s cheerfully coloured Royal Doulton crockery. Think pink, blue and yellow butterfly-adorned plates with delicate lobster crustless sandwiches (see, we told you it was fancy), pink cake stands laden with mini lemon meringue pies and a traditional three tier stand with bite sized mini scones and savoury tarts. The Zokoko chocolate and caramel tart is decadent and delicious, and the Chantilly vanilla crème is a real highlight – we piled it high on our petite scones.

The Centennial Afternoon Tea starts at $30 per person, which includes six bites to eat and T2 tea, but you can upgrade with the Champagne Set Centennial cocktail or glass of bubbles for $45 per person. You can add extra bites for $5 each.
