Fresh from the Milkman

The milkman has always been associated with fresh produce and mornings. Two good things. Now you can associate fresh produce and mornings with Milkman Espresso in Hawthorn. But only for the next six months that is. Then it will be gone again. The space needed to be filled for six months, so Kim Stephen and Kristy Lawler took the opportunity to be first time café owners.

Built from scratch by the duo, Milkman is a lot of white, woods, and blues. A very aesthetically pleasing colour scheme we have to admit. And the blue logo, fit with their very own little milkman, was designed by Stephen, the graphic designer of the pair.

The menu is tight. There isn’t a real kitchen kicking around out the back so things are limited. Don’t expect to find poached eggs. Or any eggs really. Go for the apple and coconut bircher or the macadamia muesli with fresh berries for something light. If smashed avocado is your thing, you’ve come to the right place. There are three on offer. Either keep things simple with goats cheese, or get adventurous with the Italia, which has prosciutto, peas, bocconcini, and chilli flakes, or the Mexican with charred corn, cherry tomatoes, goats cheese, and coriander.

You can keep things very on trend with a green smoothie of almond milk, kale, baby spinach, banana, chia seeds, and cacao nibs.

They also have a killer rotation of salads on the menu like the roast pumpkin, kale, cos, chickpeas, pumpkin seeds, toasted almonds, and dates or the summer stone fruit salad with rocket, nectarine, mint, feta, spicy pumpkin bread croutons, pistachios, and a lemon olive oil dressing
