Cuticle Couture

I Scream NailsForget French manicures and half moons, cuticle couture has been taken to a whole new level. Melbourne’s nail salons and beauty parlours are getting creative and we’ve found two who’ll turn your nails into works of art.

Miss Fox

Walking into Miss Fox from Flinders Lane is like walking into a fashionista’s fantasy land. Champagne, crystal chandelier, plush pink chaise – what more do you need? Throw in a manipedi and we’re in heaven.

When it comes to choosing your nail art, Miss Fox has a compendium of ideas. Flick through a huge folder of Minx layers – leopard print, psychedelic swirls, jigsaw pieces, even the Union Jack. The simple heat-and-apply layers last anywhere from 3-7 days and are instant glam.

If you’re after a custom design, get Sara to work her magic. She’s painted everything from tiny pink roses a la Alannah Hill to a graveyard scene for a Six Feet Under marathon.

I Scream Nails

For wild patterns and bold prints, head online and find out where I Scream Nails will be popping up next. One week you might find them occupying a freight container at the People’s Market, the next it’s launch parties for up and coming designers.

They’re often at Westfields, Sportsgirls and Shopping Centres around Melbourne which is great if you’re not smack bang in the CBD. They’re even regulars at private parties and hen’s nights.

Celia Cecchi’s brainchild, I Scream Nails is all about creative cuticle design. Pieces of fruit are a big hit, but if you don’t fancy a melon mani, they’re pros at spots, stripes and even Mondrian-inspired manis.
