Once upon a time in 1888 Hotel

hotel1Our story begins in 1888 with a wool store being built in the wharf district of Pyrmont.

Fast forward 125 years – and $30 million dollars – and what was once a purely utilitarian space has been converted by 8Hotels group into a 90 room boutique hotel, complete with penthouse, meeting rooms and an eatery and bar that serves rustic share platters, local wines, craft beers and a generous continental breakfast.

Let’s review your quarters. 1888 Hotel’s ‘The Shoebox’, is a fine example of just the basics (you’re spending your time in the great Sydney outdoors anyway). Suites offer more floor and head space (higher up each floor as you go). And if you’re inclined towards private terraces and like it on top, opt for ‘The Attic’.

But if we know you (and we do), The Williamson – code name ‘W007’ – is your kind of space, with loft style bedding, polished concrete floors, shower and bath tub (unofficially roomy enough for 3). Fancy a cocktail? Just ask your very own waiter (book with reception) behind the bar. He’s handy for a few pre-dinner drinks in the comfort of your private lounge room. And when you’re ready to venture out, forget the lobby entrance … use your own private door for easy off street access.

For added fun, 1888 also happens to be the year that Kodak patented the first box and roll camera. Because of this cheerful coincidence, the creative thinkers at 8Hotels have decided the launch the new property by adding an Instagram ‘selfie space’ in reception, showing guest’s Instagram shots in the Mac lounge and offering guests an Instagram walking map of the area.
