Muum Maam

New Surry Hills Thai eatery

Having an identity crisis bodes just fine for some. Take Superman and Clark Kent (minus the Lois issues) and new Thai kid on the Surry Hills dining precinct block, Muum Maam.

A Thai street slang term for ‘little glutton’, by day it’s a casual lunch spot, called Tuk Shop, with fresh tasting dishes for one, ordered from the cute tuk tuk vendor at the front, but by night, transforms into a chic eatery with regional favourites and seasonal specials on the blackboard.

Throw in a selection of aromatic curries, made with fresh coconut milk, extracted on premises thanks to a special husker flown in from the motherland, the best crab fried rice we’ve tried in ages, as well as chic cocktails (the lemongrass sour is what you’re looking for) and delicious desserts like black sticky rice tart with Messina’s famous lychee and coconut gelato…and you have a recipe for a delectable night out.

Night or day; Muum Maam is a place to get your glutton on.
