Your Beauty Guide For Getting Race Day Ready

Colgate Optic WhiteOn the day, the races are about the horses. Ok it’s about getting dressed up and drinking champers track-side. But before the races, it’s all about the prep work. Getting dolled up doesn’t just happen overnight. A day at the races is like any big event – it requires a diligent beauty routine at least a week prior to ensure you’re looking damn fine on the day. So what do you need to do besides getting a pre-race day mani and pedi?

The Skin
The dilemma: You need your skin to shine bright like a diamond.
The product: Jurlique Daily Exfoliating Cream

Most of the time the reason your skin is dull and lacklustre is because there’s a build-up of dirt and dead skin cells getting in the way. A bi-weekly exfoliation will fix that right up. To apply it, wet your hands first and put the product into your palms. Rub them together to form a paste then apply to your face in a gentle, circular motion. Don’t forget to get into the corners around your nose and along the hairline – grease loves to chill out there. Rinse with warm water, pat dry and then immediately apply your layers of skincare essentials. Try to get your exfoliating routine happening weeks before race day for the best results. A flawless complexion takes dedication after all.

The Teeth
The dilemma: You need a pearly white smile stat.
The product: Colgate Optic White® Express WhiteTM toothpaste.

Colgate-Optic-White-1There’s a lot to smile about at the races. The sun is shining, the bubbles are flowing and you won big on your bet. You’ll need pearly white teeth to do your winner’s glow justice. And no, it’s not too late. So long as you have at least three days up your sleeve. Colgate Optic White Express White
is a whitening toothpaste, which means you don’t need to bother with those annoying whitening strips. Best used for four weeks prior, you just brush your teeth like you do every morning and night and the whitening ingredient in the toothpaste (hydrogen peroxide, which is the same ingredients dentists use) will do all the work for you. You can even up your whitening game and also use Colgate Optic White toothbrushes and mouthwash. Did we mention you see results in as little as three days! Imagine how sparkling white your teeth could be if you started today. Just sayin’.

The Brows
The dilemma: You have two fuzzy caterpillars where your brows used to be.
The product: Benefit Brow Bar

Benefit Brow BarDo you realise how much power your brows hold? They can make or break your look. Polished, plucked brows perfectly frame your face and make you look ‘done’ without even trying. Don’t put your fate in your own hands – this is one job best left for the experts. Book yourself into a Benefit Brow Bar – these guys are our go-to brow pros and will fix you up real nice.

The Tan
The dilemma: You are as pasty as toothpaste.
The product: St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse

Sure you could get a spray tan a few days before the races, but it’s just as easy to get a bronzed glow at home. Before you begin, exfoliate your whole body so you have a smooth canvas to build your colour onto. Next, pump a generous amount of mousse into your hands and quickly rub it into your skin. Watch out for streakers. Top up in a few days time if you want to build the colour to be even more bronze, otherwise use a gradual tanning moisturiser to keep your shade of sunkissed just right in the lead up to race day.

The Hair
The dilemma: Your mane is frizzier than Sideshow Bob’s fro.
The product: Shu Uemura Ultimate Remedy Extreme Restoration Treatment

ShuUemura_artofhair_620x349Frizzy hair is a major hassle to style. Throw in a little humidity on the day and hello fluff ball. A week (preferably more) before the big day, treat your tresses to a deep conditioning mask twice a week. Your hair will be repaired, nourished and back to bombshell in no time at all.

A Few Extra Tips

Tip 1: When you’re doing your pre-races prep, including all of the must-do’s above, don’t try anything new. No new products, no new treatments, no new makeup looks in the week of the races. You never know how your skin is going to react to new ingredients. The safest way is to go with products you know and love.

Tip 2: Break in your shoes. No doubt you bought a new pair of wedges (not heels, that would be a rookie mistake) but the last thing you want is to be hobbling track-side on the day because your feet are killing you. Give your feet a chance to break them in. And if they’re still hurting after a wear or two, it’s time to get a Plan B.

Tip 3: Go for a nude lippie on the day. Sure, a bold pink would really get you noticed, but so too will that smeared clown face look at the end of the day when your lipstick ventures past your lip line due to eating, drinking and the heat. It’s not worth it. Nude is chic and low maintenance – just what you want when at the races. Trust us.

Oh wait, how could we forget.  There’s just a few more things you need to get race day ready … You’ll need some Moet & Chandon to celebrate in style, somewhere fabulous to rest your weary feet at the end of a long day at the races, and you could probably use a blowdry and some gorgeous makeup to help you look the part. Right?
