Tonda brings Italy’s favourite snack to Chippendale

Tonda

Good things really do come in small packages and we’re not talking about jewelry (although we’ll never say no to that!). Pizzettas have landed down under and we’re on board in a very big way.

Tonda has been producing pizzettas for more than 60 years in Italy, so they’ve had plenty of practice perfecting the art of fast, fresh, fabulous food. They’re expanding globally and this is the first Australian outpost in the food court on Level 2 at Central Park Mall, with more popping up across Sydney in 2019.

While the food is speedy, the focus here remains firmly on high quality ingredients, carefully selected and imported from Italy. Think organic flour, tomato sauce and olive oil.

And that’s just the base. Vegetarians are especially spoilt for choice – Sottabosca with mushrooms with gorgonzola and basil or the Norma with eggplant and ricotta are both melt in your mouth good. The Gran Formaggi is absolutely spot on with Fior di latte mozzarella, gorgonzola, parmigiana and a little basil. The Salsiccia e Broccoli with pork sausage and steamed broccoli is a crowd pleaser, as is the equally delicious Emilia with Ricotta, Mozzarella and light as a feather parma ham.

The pizzettas are the drawcard, but some of the stars of the show are in the pasta offerings. The eggplant parmigiana and mushroom cannelloni are pure oozy cheesy goodness that are some of the best we’ve tried outside of Italy (as it should be, the staff are Italian).

The good news for the indecisive is that as they are in budget-friendly small sizes (4 slices per pizzetta), so you can try several without feeling guilty – and making them ideal for sharing.

Tonda is the perfect pit stop to rest your weary feet while shopping up a storm in Chippendale. These authentic (almost) guilt-free pizzettas and pastas will transport you back to that hole-in-the-wall Italian bar you discovered in the cobblestoned streets of Florence.
