The Renegades artful cafe and wine bar

Renegades HeroA trip to postcode 2020 used to mean the most excitement would be an afternoon at Bunnings. Hang up your paint brushes and head over the road to The Renegades where you’ll find art and food explodes in a riot of eccentric colour.

It’s thanks to street artist Alex Lehours. His mural dominates the personality of the café with the advice ‘Don’t die wondering’.

Little encouragement is needed to try a Mount Gay Rum Mojito, backed up by a silky Mandala Pinot. It would be rude not to find out what the New York fries consist of; (oven roasted kipflers all cracked n crispy), though the tomato prawns and a divine watermelon salad with Meredith goats cheese feta are all outshone by warm Madura wildflower honey walnuts which’ll have you naughtily licking your fingers to taste the last drip of sticky goodness.

Go during the day to check out ever changing specials with one thing constant – great coffee thanks to Di Gabriel roasters.

About the author

Karen’s corporate job back in the UK had included entertaining clients in some of the best restaurants. This ultimately sparked a curiosity 'Just how do they do that?' (she confesses she was brought up on meat and vegetables, so this was all very exciting). Currently a Mr & Mrs Smith 'Tastemaker', she’s flashpacked around the world, learning about wine, experiencing different cultures and cuisines and had a two- year love affair with it all. Originally from England, she finally settled in Australia and continues to be besotted by food, wine and travel preferring to focus on the luxury end of town (thread count does matter).
