The Easter Sweet Treats Guide

Pana-Chocolate-Easter

So the eggs have been in the supermarket aisles since Boxing Day but is it just us or does Easter still seem to creep up on you? If you haven’t started using Easter puns in your emails yet (come one, they’re eggscellent), you might need a little help getting into the Easter spirit.

Not to fear, you’ve still got a little time left to start thinking all things chocolate, bunnies, hot cross buns, chocolate… with our Easter guide, with a sweet treats twist.

Hot Cross Buns

I like big buns and I cannot lie. Ok is it just us that thinks of that song every time we talk about buns? Maybe not but the Bourke St Bakery guys certainly follow our line of thinking. They’re back this year with their popular hot cross loaf – a supersized bun that’s big enough to share. Plus, who can resist Adriano Zumbo’s Hot X Bun Zumbarons and his Chocolate Pistols Punk Bunnies?

For the Easter egg fiend!!

Oliver Brown Chocolate Cafe's special Easter treat

Oliver Brown Chocolate Cafe’s special Easter treat

Ah, the time of year when it’s totally justified to stuff yourself full of chocolate. Creamy, dark, white, rocky road filled, covered in sprinkles, big, small – there’s plenty to choose from. This year go all out and try out the limited edition Ferrero eggs. That’s right, Easter eggs filled with Ferrero Rocher! Bite sized, crunchy, creamy and almost too good to share, they’re available with hazelnut filling or a cacoa wafer filling.

Now if you’re out and about and after a chocolate hit (Easter themed, so totally guilt free), stop by an Oliver Brown Belgian Chocolate Café over the next week to try their special sweet treat. Created by My Kitchen Rules winners Sammy & Bella, the dark chocolate, orange ganache mousse-filled treat is almost too cute to eat. Almost.

Don’t forget about the wizards over at Gelato Messina. They’ve whipped up The Egg again – white shell, chocolate gelato, white chocolate yolk perched on a crunchy hazelnut and dark chocolate cream nest. Need we say more?

For the healthy bunny

Healthy, we promise! Aboutlife’s hot cross buns

Are you working on your buns at the gym and don’t want to sacrifice your healthy routine for a hot cross bun? Never fear, Aboutlife have you sorted. They’ll be baking organic wheat and organic spelt hot cross buns over Easter. Organic flour, buttermilk, honey, sultanas, currents and spices – these buns are made just with the good stuff. If you’re feeling particularly virtuous, try their Carob Banjo Egg. Caffeine free, no added sugar, your personal trainer would approve.

And of course, with the opening of their first Sydney store, there’s been a better excuse to stock up on Pana Chocolate. The raw organic chocolate has a cult following in Melbourne and in Sydney so if you know a special someone with a healthy sweet tooth, pop in and pick up their Easter gift pack, Easter Bunny and Caramel Lava eggs. Or drop a few hints to your Easter bunny that you’d like some too!

Easter-themed Events

On Easter weekend, the Grounds of Alexandria Easter Fair will be pumping on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th. They’ve got their own giant egg (giant, as in 2 metres!!), a Golden Egg Hunt (5,000 eggs to find with one lucky golden egg hidden amongst the lot), a petting zoo and plenty of adorable Easter-themed treats. Piggy Profiteroles anyone? Keep an eye out for the Bunny Bum cupcakes and Marshmallow Bunny Macarons. We’re pretty upset the Bunny pancakes are only on the kids menu…
