Winter Dining in Sydney

When the weather outside is frightful, the fire is so delightful … ok so there’s no snow in Sydney but when winter decides to hit, it doesn’t do it by halves.

If you’ve shivered through the long weekend and are dreaming of hearty winter warmers, the restaurants and bars around Sydney have you sorted.

360 Bar and Dining, the Botanic Gardens Restaurant, Queens Park Shed, The Pavilion, Sydney Tower and Centennial Parklands Dining have launched their new Winterlicious-themed menus.

Expect hearty soups from the Queens Park Shed, 12 hour braised beef cheek from the Botanic Gardens, and plenty of roasts, rib eyes and daily specials from all of the restaurants.

The chefs aren’t just throwing anything into the pan – they’re keeping the focus of fresh, local produce. Hunter Valley pork, Riverina lamb and fresh vegies are just the tip of the iceberg.

If the sound of healthy comfort food doesn’t warm you up, take note. The Winterlicious menus mark a partnership with NSW Phillip Shaw and Margan Family wineries.

You’ll get to try Philip Shaw’s 2012 The Idiot Shiraz with a rib eye for just $39.50 during lunch on weekdays, or there’s a Margan Family Semilion from 2013 paired with the weekend roast at the Botanic Gardens Restaurant.

The good news is you’ve got until the end of August to taste your way through winter.

And what is a winter without a good glass of wine? The Cloudy Bay Pinot and Duck Trail is back – this time with more than 30 restaurants on board.

Pinot and duck are one of the great food and wine matches – don’t let us be the judge though, head to some of Sydney’s best restaurants Ucello and Icebergs Dining Room and Bar to try the pairing out.

Cloudy Bay’s 2012 Pinot Noir is a smooth sipper, with plum and aromatic spice, along with hints of bittersweet chocolate, fruit and spice on the palette. Warming indeed.
