Shopping never felt so good. The clothing festival for a good cause

Are you addicted to Girl Boss on Netflix? Is your wardrobe filled with second hand finds? Do you daydream about one day owning a pair of vintage Manolo Blahnik’s? If you answered yes to any of the above, you should already have National Op Shop Week on your calendar.

If you haven’t, clear some space in your wardrobe and mark down Sunday August 27th until Sunday September 2nd .

To celebrate all things up-cycled, Salvos Stores in NSW, ACT and QLD will host a range of events and specials – that includes 50% off all non-new items. That’s right, 50% off. Like we said, clear out some space in the wardrobe!

In 2016 more than 30,000 tonnes of donated items were given to Salvos instead of landfill – those items are reused by families in need, who are also given the profits from items sold in Salvos stores around the country. So guess what, you’re shopping for a good cause!

Sydneysiders better start cleaning out their closets now – more than 2,000 hand picked garments will be sold at a three day pop up store in Paddington’s Comber Studios called Salvos Curated.

Each day there will be new pieces, hand picked by the Salvos team and eco-stylist Faye De Lanty and Clare Press, author of Wardrobe Crisis.  De Lanty and Press will curate different sections of the space.

Make a beeline for Label Conscious, filled with pieces from celebs like Sally Obermeder and designers Ginger & Smart, Gary Bigeni and Bianca Spender. The DIY room will host up-cycling and mending workshops, showing you a few tips and tricks on how to turn old wardrobe items into new statement pieces.

And remember, it’s almost time for Spring cleaning. It turns out 83% of Aussie women have clothes they’ve only worn once or twice, and we’re purchasing 20kg of clothing each year. So if you want to give back, rather than stock up, clean out your closet and donate.
