Shoot the Player

On the streets of our city a group of DIY filmmakers have been recording live, unplugged performances by local and international musicians.  Not so unusual, until you add in the highly unpredictable places (forget the Metro, think tattoo parlours and bakeries).

Inspired by Vincent Moon’s Take Away Show, a French film project that records musicians on the streets of France, Sydney-based Shoot the Player create spontaneous, one-take films of artists performing in the most unlikely of locations.

Drop into the foyer of Carriageworks to view 100 films at your private listening pod or on the big screen. Expect raw, one off mini performances that capture not only the artist’s spectacle but the surrounding urban landscape and the artists and filmmaker’s interactions with it. Sarah Blasko in a tattoo parlour; Reggie Watts at Harry’s Cafe de Wheels; Ben Lee at Rushcutters Bay and Bob Evans at Bourke St Bakery.

And yes, that really was Cloud Control you saw at Taylor Square one hazy Sunday morning.
