MCA ARTBAR

Ever had one of those childhood dreams about being locked inside a candy store? There’s something intrinsically appealing about infiltrating a place outside of its normal opening hours, especially when that place generally encourages you to look but not touch.

Tapping into this truth on the last Friday of every month is the freshly restored Museum of Contemporary Art. Taking over the entire new wing and one exhibition space with music, art and performance, MCA ARTBAR will give the term “culture shock” a whole new meaning.

Holding the reigns of the inaugural ARTBAR is photographer and video artist Justene Williams. Forget everything you’ve been taught about museums and indulge in a sensory banquet of cocktails, karaoke with consequences and DJ sounds courtesy of Charlie Chux, Perfect Snatch, Touch Sensitive and Tyson Koh.

Tonight’s event will coincide with the Vivid light installations, so if you hold one of the golden tickets make sure to pull your mind out of the madness long enough to look out the window.

Kicking back with a big glass of red is one way to end a working week, but this is far more fun.
