Oliver comes to town

There seems to be a trend of the food world’s heavyweights opening restaurants down under  – and things aren’t changing anytime soon with the opening of Jamie Oliver’s first Aussie venture on Pitt Street.

No, it’s not in Westfield or The Star, but Jamie’s new Italian digs does boast a hefty 190 seats, with local produce and value for money providing a one-two combination sure to be a knockout.

While the brand is global, the food is local, with the restaurant enlisting the help of producers like Dal Zotto wines, Joto Seafood and Brasserie Bread amongst a host of others, to provide Australia’s seasonal best.

And while Mr Oliver won’t be making an appearance on the burners, he has enlisted Executive Chef Dave Clarke (discovered by Quay’s very own Peter Gilmour) to head up the kitchen team.

Expect unpretentious, rustic food with a lot of heart…and probably a few queues in the coming weeks.
