Chase Kojima opens Sokyo at The Star

Let us introduce you to chef Chase Kojima. He’s to Japanese cuisine what Heston Blumenthal is to molecular gastronomy.

Ex-Nobu pedigree, Kojima hails from a long lineage of internationally acclaimed Japanese restaurateurs, and has been slicing sashimi in professional kitchens since age 11. And now he’s calling Sydney home with the opening of his first antipodean restaurant, Sokyo.

Located within the five-star walls of the new Darling hotel in The Star, Sokyo is an exquisite mix of traditional Japan and contemporary Tokyo – and there’s even a bit of Oz in there too; à la Vegemite croutons and grilled lamb chops.

Serving a traditional kaiseki-style menu (meaning multiple courses served in a particular order), Kojima will take you on an unforgettable culinary journey starting with heavenly slices of sashimi, before moving to tempura, hot dishes, sushi and then dessert.

Sit back in the sleek dimly lit dining room and enjoy a full frontal view of the kitchen or sip on a sparkling sake cocktail in the moody lounge.

Either way, you’ll be treated to top-shelf service and sultry tunes by the resident DJ.
