The pursuit of happiness these days is as important as it’s ever been. People are doing happiness projects, going to happiness seminars, and reading about how to de-stress and harness their true potential. It’s a thing. And it’s a good thing. One outfit in Burnley has gone that extra step further with the opening of Serotonin Dealer, the new home for smiles.

This place is a combination of food – Serotonin Eatery, a personal training element just down the road, and education that is yet to join the party (estimated for 2016).

Serotonin Eatery is a plant-based café filled with lots smiley staff, swings out the back, and foods tailored to increase our wellbeing and happiness. All the food is sourced from quality farmers, is mainly organic – therefore free of nasty additives, and tries to keep all of the ingredients in their most natural form to enhance the nutrients.

As you’d expect, this menu is all about health, catering for food avoidances, and is packed with superfoods.

We’d suggest the nutrition bomb – a poached egg, broccoli, alkalizing greens, sprouts, house-made hummus, cold roast vegies, nuts, seeds, and pickled powerkraut, or maybe the organic cacao and banana bowl a mix of ripe bananas, house-made organic cacao, coffee beans, coconut, passionfruit, seasonal fruits, and micro herbs. A favourite for the masses seems to be the Positive Pancakes – organic banana flour pancakes with house-made banana ice cream, mixed berries, serotonin hung yoghurt balls, roasted almonds, and organic agave syrup.

The drinks list is serious. Coffee can be made with anything from organic milk to organic almond milk to organic coconut milk. If coffee isn’t your thing you might like a golden latte a mix of organic house-made turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, and black pepper served with almond mink, or maybe a veggie juice of lemon, beetroot, celery, carrot, and ginger.

We’re not sure visiting a smiley yellow café will change all that much in our lives overnight, but it’s a step in the right direction.
