Queensberry Street Pour House, Now Pouring

Melbourne seems to be the birth place for many a venue inspired by trips to the big US of A. And, we can’t complain. Especially when it comes to newcomer Queensberry Street Pour House. And it’s not just because of their bottomless cups of filter coffee. Although that is part of it, you know, deadlines and all.

This new caffeinated venue comes from Ben Stronach (previous owner of Sydney’s Corduroy) and his partner Natalie Kirwan. They jetted off to the US with the idea of riding motorcycles. We’re a bigger fan of the plan they brought back with them. An American diner and bucket loads of filter coffee. Stronach roasts the coffee himself, serving up a rotation that heavily focuses on single origin. For those almond milk lovers, there’s a white coffee that involves overnight filter infusion followed by house made almond milk, and topped with espresso. We’d like 47 of those right now, to be honest.

The homely space sees lots of dark woods in the furniture and white walls. The handwritten menu just adds to the homely feel. Go for grain sourdough toast with house made almond butter or coconut butter, or the smashed eggs and toast with Pour House pesto. For something a little more lunchy go for the coffee soaked lamb pie with an espresso shot, or the roasted carrot, cannellini bean salad with rocket and cashew ‘cheese’.

It’s a place for the caffeine fiends among us. Which is handy as there will always be an abundance of sleepy uni students wandering in.
