A night of storytelling at The Wheeler Centre

What do books, films, dinner conversations and your facebook status updates have in common? They all revolve around the art of storytelling; passing on experiences from one friend, family and generation to another. From the life defining stories (how you met your partner) to the short term (where you last ate).

In this spirit of sharing, The Wheeler Centre brought together storytellers and writers for a Gala event last year to celebrate the diversity of Melbourne and its locals. The 2010 event was so successful that this year’s has expanded to include international writers who will share their cultural viewpoints.

You can listen to unique and personal stories spoken in French, Chinese, German and Hindi as well as the local’s “Aussie” language. Don’t fret if your language abilities are limited to “café au lait” and “sushi” – you’ll be fine as all stories will be translated into English.

Guest storytellers include John Birmingham who wrote “He Died With a Felafel in His Hand” to Mem Fox, author of “Possum Magic” to award winning French novelist Yannick Haenel, Sonya Hartnett of “Thursday’s Child”, Nam Le of “The Boat” and iconic indigenous Australian, Archie Roach.
