Up on the roof

A lot of cool cinematic moments occur on rooftops. First kisses with semi-arachnids, edge-of-your-seat helicopter escapes, meaningful eye contact with giant gorillas and general bad guy evasion. Whatever genre you subscribe to, you can get your piece of the action this summer with Melbourne Rooftop Cinema.

Watch the sun set over the CBD, kick back in a deckchair and listen to DJ’s spinning chilled out tracks. Then, when darkness comes, crack open a cider and watch one of this season’s celluloid highlights including 80’s cult classics This is Spinal Tap and Eraserhead, documentaries William S. Burroughs: A Man Within and Teenage Paparazzo, and homegrown horrors Animal Kingdom and The Loved Ones.

Snacks will be provided at earthling prices (versus the terrifying alien prices they charge in cinemas). Ralph Rashid, owner of Beatbox Kitchen, will be serving up his famous Raph burger, ‘Shroom’ burger and handcut fries, all topped with your choice of Stereo sauce or Annie’s relish (also available in Spicy).

Make sure you’re in the right scene this summer – escape to the roof.
