Onsen Ma

Onsen MaWho doesn’t love a hot tub? Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you can’t get steamy. The Onsen Ma bathhouse is right in the centre of the city but a world away from the concrete jungle.

This is a traditional Japanese bathhouse and you gotta get naked. OK, you don’t have to if you really don’t want to, but that’s how it’s done in Japan.

Start by getting your kit off, rinse off with hot water and then hop in the 40 degree tub. You usually soak just for around 10 minutes, just enough time to get wrinkly, before hopping into the sauna. Once your pores feel cleared, or you’re really sweaty, rinse off again and hop back in the tub.

After a hot tub session, it’s worth booking in for a Shiatsu massage. The finger pressure and stretching techniques really get into your tight spots, although you’re clothed in a kimono so it’s not unbearable.

If you like a little privacy while you get pampered, you can book out the private spa and steam room too.
