No. 8

Never content to rest on its laurels, No. 8 (previously No.8 by John Lawson) now has at the helm a former Maze and Mr Hive chef determined to amp up the energy.

Gone are the white tablecloths and closed off kitchen – wooden tables, glass panels to see the chefs and a range of homemade pottery by Mike Skewes set the mood for fun, fresh food focusing on local produce.

Look out for Barwon River lamb, Bacchus Marsh mushrooms and duck from North East Victoria, all grown and reared exclusively for No. 8. A signature dish of black and blue Portland tuna has Lawson excited but he can’t stop talking about the bread. Months of testing with baker Ed Parker went into an Irish Potato sour dough flecked with rosemary and honey. It’s set to be the signature loaf so leave your carb-free mentality at the door.

The first wine dinner takes place on Nov 14th 2013, with wine guru James Halliday on hand, as part of Good Food Month.
