Kelvin Club Joins the 21st Century

KCFeatureThe Kelvin Club opening back in 1865 is one of those members only establishments with ‘particular’ club rules, dress codes and hushed gentlemen-only dealings, what you might consider a little old-fashioned.

Lucky then for the greater folk its decision (likely by committee) to update and open the doors to seek a new kind of patron. They’re still hoping for more members, let’s not forget what they are at the end of the day, but now you’ve got a chance to peek inside an age-old tradition.

Members of The Kelvin Club are encouraged to treat the venue as an extension of their own home. With free wifi, a dining room, a games room with pool tables and all and a liquor cabinet stocked to the brim, it’s said to be a great place to escape the CBD, hold business meetings, or just get that stiff drink. And it appears hats and suits are big.

So what about non-members? Well Jerome Borazio (St Jerome’s, Shit Town) is on hand to assist in the shift, and all will be welcomed for the occasional Friday night drinks and gig nights, where your ticket acts as a once-off membership. The upstairs function room, a previous ABC radio headquarters has the acoustics for it.

The 24-hour liquor license, bottles of Moet and cocktails might be the draw card for those without a membership. We nominate Kelvin Club for your Friday night scene. You second the motion.
