Kirks Wine Bar Smartens up Hardware Lane

Kirk's Wine BarHardware lane; Melbourne locals usually don’t venture down there too often, unless visiting a few solid venues. There’s something about the people standing on the street yelling menus at you, and the restaurant tables being 2cm away from each other (read: weird tourist vibe). But, Kirks Wine Bar is going to do something about that.

Con Christopoulos, Ian Curley, and Josh Brisbane (City Wine Shop, Siglo, European) are at it again with Kirks Wine Bar, found on the corner of the busy Hardware Lane in Melbourne’s CBD where Kirk’s Bazaar Hotel, one of Melbourne CBD’s early drinking holes used to stand.

In true City Wine Shop style, the menu is an all day sip and nibble kind of affair. Breakfast starts with Dr Marty’s crumpets, or maybe the baked Turkish eggs with imam bayildi and labna. Dishes will move to an all day eating style with polenta chips, Nicoise salad with confit tuna, a terrine and pâté board with house-made pickles, steak tartare, pork belly parcels, and gnocchi with zucchini, asparagus, silver beet, peas, basil and olive dust.

The wine list is obviously a draw card on its own with both old and new styles being covered. There are even some of City Wine Shop’s favourite bottles lining the walls.

Go early, stay til late, or do anything in between.
