Greene Street Juice Co., a company that was conceived in New York and put into action right here in Melbourne, has opened its first store, or elixir bar as they like to call it, on Chapel Street in Prahran. Cold pressed organic juices are their game. The space itself is a gorgeous combination of natural light, greenery, and light timber.

Cold pressed juices are really popular on Instagram at the moment. There is no denying that. But why? Aside from being really really ‘in’ and usually being served in pretty bottles or jars making them #nofilter worthy, they’re actually really good for you too.

The ingredients are pressed, usually using a hydraulic press juicer. This juices by pressure rather than blending and grinding. That way, all the nutrients and enzymes of the fruits and vegetables are kept intact. Blenders or regular juices on the other hand heat the ingredients, which isn’t as beneficial for retaining the goodness.

Greene Street Juice Co. takes this one step further by using organic local produce and carefully selected herbs and super foods, which sees their juices or elixirs packed with added enzymes, vitamins, trace minerals, and other vital elements.

All inspired by New York, the juices themselves range from the Empire State – cold pressed organic carrot, green apple and astragalus (a Chinese herb that improves immune function), the BDFM, which is just a whole heap of orange juice goodness, to the 95 Greene, a mix of coconut water, cos lettuce, celery, cucumber, kale, green apple, lemon, and ginger.

Go forth and cure what ails you.
