Gelato Messina finally comes to town

Gelato Messina Cones

Ever since we heard the news of Gelato Messina coming to Melbourne, you could say we’ve been sitting here counting down the days. Come November 14 we will have our very own Gelato Messina on Smith Street in Fitzroy. A clear win for the north-siders, right? And the largest Messina store yet.

Starting with 20 flavours back in 2002 in Darlinghurst Sydney, Nick Palumbo and the Messina team are wizards of the traditional Sicilian craft and they always use the finest, raw natural ingredients, sourced from the best, even if that means pistachios from the hills of Italy.  From your sweet flavours like Dulce de Leche and Apple Pie to the weird and wonderful like chicken skin and foie gras, they are not short of creativity and skill.

The true creativity comes alight in their gelato cakes (yes, you read right). We have to say we’re super excited about the Black Forest cake. A combination of chocolate fondant gelato, kirsch semi freddo with amarena cherries and chocolate disc on the bottom and a mix of cherry sorbet and crisp dark chocolate dome on the top. And of course finished with a dark chocolate spray. Art and food really comes together in these creations. You only need eight pastry chefs and a commercial kitchen.

Fingers crossed for fewer lines, and more Gelato. Summer in Melbourne just got better.
