Candy Cocktails at Parke Davis

Parke Davis 7In New York, there’s a candy bar on the Upper East Side. Yes, a bar that sells cocktails made with candy. The bar is actually called Dylans, and it’s part of a giant candy store owned by Ralph Lauren’s daughter Dylan.

Well now you don’t need to go to New York for some sugary sweet sipping.

Parke Davis is a new basement bar opposite the QVB and directly underneath the Cuban Place. You know the Cuban place –  it’s now actually called the Cuban Place (previously known as La Bodeguita del Medio) and it’s where you go for mojitos and Latin dancing on a Friday night.

Parke Davis may have the same owners and they’ll make you a mojito if you ask nicely, but they’re more interested in the sweet stuff.

Sydney’s in demand master mixologist Julian Serna has had some fun creating a cocktail list that’s not afraid to mix things up.

Take the Bazooka – this baby is made on Wyborowa bubble gum vodka. The infusion is hand made out the back using the original Hubba Bubba we all know and love. The gum itself is imported from an English candy store. Vodka, raspberry, mint, lime, topped up with bubbles and served with a square of bubble gum on the side, this drink is not for anyone without a sweet tooth.

Sazerac Sphere is made around a frozen ball of absinthe, with cognac and Peychaud’s Bitters poured over the icy liquor. It’s a novel way to get acquainted with absinthe if you’re a first timer.

With plenty of tricks up their sleeves, the mixologists spend the night doling out Salty Sea Men, Banoffee or Bust, the El Capitan, Bling Bling and Tall and Dandy to the tunes of The Beach Boys and The Drifters.

Parke Davis is having just as much fun with the music and food. Try The World is Your Oyster (fresh oysters), The Girlfriend Impresser (lobster and pastry) or even a Bloody Sunset Roast (roast beef) if you’re settling in for the night.
