Burgers are a much-loved Melbourne staple. We get that. But, if you take a look around any suburb, you’ll realise that the stuff has been done and is being done again and again. So the team behind Boy & Co thought it was time to give the ‘sides’ a time to shine. And by sides we mean fries and shakes. Genius, right? We think so. The menu minus the burger leaves so much more room for liquid goodness.

The shakes come in a simple (Classic) form and the more adventurous (Pimped). On the classic side we’ve got the Average Joe, a vanilla malt shake for purists and The Heisenburg, which is the Boy & Co crew’s version of a Blue Heaven. When you head over to the Pimped side of the menu you’ll find something a little more indulgent like the Hansel & Gretel mix of Speculoos cookie butter blended with cookie crumbles, or the PB & Choc, a mix of peanut butter and homemade chocolate syrup. It’s the stuff of your childhood dreams.

The solid part of the menu is in the form of fried potatoes. You’ve got regular fries, sweet potato fries, and the salt and vinegar shoestring fries. You can also go for a hearty option with the Gravy and Cheese Fries topped with house made gravy, cheese sauce, Cajun seasoning, grated cheese, and spring onions, or the Chilli Cheese Fries topped with house made chilli, cheese sauce, spring onions, and diced jalapeños. We can feel a potato and cheese coma coming on and we’re so on board.

The small space has been designed by Jean Paul Ghougassian from Comme Design. Think a diner-influenced space filled with wood, blue detailing, booth seating, and simple clean graphics.

Word on the street is there are plans for an outdoor cinema in the courtyard along with booze spiked shakes for the late night crowd. Hello liquid dinners.
