Melbourne loves a crazy reinvention of the standard. Cocktails with fat washed ingredients, haloumi crumbs, freeze dried anything. So it’s no surprise everyone is getting excited for Adriano Zumbo’s latest venture Fancy Nance, set to open any day now. Zumbo is known for taking something great then making it kooky and supersized in flavour and level of difficulty. Zonuts with mango and pineapple and now Tim Tams filled with salted caramel or coconut cream. Have you ever tried to make something from that cookbook of his? Put aside a day or two, trust us. Fancy Nance, named after his mother Nancy is going to take high tea and Zumbo-ify it.

The high tea salon, cocktail bar, and bakery café is going to throw out any preconceived ideas you have around high tea. Where is this excitement going to take place? 21 Daly Street, South Yarra, the 400sqm space that was once George Calombaris’s MamaBaba and then Manu Feildel’s La Grand Cirque. Perhaps Zumbo can give this space a little more luck. With sweet and savoury bites being served up degustation style, don’t expect any tiered cake stands.

The space has been reimagined by Studio Tate, featuring a brass cocktail bar, brass detailing, and pink booth seating. Very weird and wonderful, just like all of Zumbo’s creations.

The space is set to open any day now. Watch this space.
